This is a varied and influential role where your work will help provide assurance, improve controls and support good governance across both Cannock Chase District Council and Stafford Borough Council. Working with the Chief Internal Auditor & Risk Manager and under the day-to-day supervision of the Deputy Chief Internal Auditor, you will take responsibility for a range of risk-based audit assignments, from planning and fieldwork, through to reporting and follow-up. You will play a key part in delivering the Internal Audit Plan and helping services identify practical improvements that make a real difference. In this role, you will: � Deliver a varied programme of risk-based audits across Council services � Plan audit work, prepare audit briefs and focus testing on key risks � Write clear reports that help managers improve controls and services � Build positive relationships and give practical advice on audit, governance and control matters � Support and guide junior audit colleagues � Keep up to date with legislation, Council policy and professional audit standards ________________________________________ About you We are looking for someone who combines sound audit knowledge with curiosity, judgement and the confidence to work constructively with colleagues across the organisation. You will bring: � GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent, in English and Mathematics � Level 4 AAT, IIA Internal Audit Practitioner, CIIA Certified Internal Auditor, CIPFA Professional Diploma or equivalent qualification � Experience of designing and performing risk-based audits, with the ability to manage work through to clear conclusions � Comprehensive knowledge of internal audit principles, practices and procedures, including risk management principles � Excellent written, analytical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain findings clearly and recommend practical improvements � A proactive, resilient and well-organised approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines The successful candidates will be required to undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard Check once appointed, which includes a Basic DBS Disclosure and enhanced identity checks.
