DE&S, Salvage and Marine Operations, is the lead across the MoD for the provision of marine salvage and emergency response. Our team of specialists including Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, Naval Architects, Environmental Scientists, ROV Pilots and Divers provide a centre of expertise for subsea activities and marine operations.
Our operations are varied and include: salvage assistance to damaged surface vessels, location of aircraft on the sea-bottom, survey of WWII wrecks, towage of warships and submarines, emergency response preparedness exercises and underwater engineering support to rectify defects on Navy platforms at home and overseas.
We are a flexible, highly trained and multi-skilled team who are ready to respond at short notice worldwide. We provide very exciting opportunities for global travel, recently sending our experienced team on deployments including Singapore, Japan and Bahrain.
The SALMO team at Marine Salvage Unit(North) are looking for an experienced Logistic Support Officer to join their team.
As LSO you will be responsible for the MSU(N) stores accounts and inventory, local facilities management of Lodger unit, a small transport fleet and conducting Low Value Purchases. You will be a key enabler for SALMO to deploy personnel and equipment worldwide in direct support of SALMO operations. You will be responsible for timely Outward and Return Logistics for unit equipment including dangerous goods by land, sea and air using MOD and Commercial contracts. The role requires to post to deal with a wide range of departments both within the MoD and Industry.
You may be required to perform these duties at reach on short notice in direct support of SALMO operations as a member of the Salvage Team. This would require the individual to have a high level of physical fitness, as the role shall involve arduous physical tasks during operations. You shall be a full member of the team and trained in practical salvage tasks.

This Assignment is subject to Retained Grade Terms and Conditions. The Terms and conditions within the SALMO team differ from the DE&S standard TACOS and are detailed in the SALMO team handbook which is currently under revision.
In order to be successful in this role you must be fit to pass and maintain a 2 yearly ENG1 seafarers medical.
This Assignment carries a Royal Navy Sponsored Reserve liability and is open to UK Nationals only.
You will be expected to work overtime as and when required in support of operational commitments.
You will be required to live within 60 minutes travelling time of the base to which you are appointed.
You will be required to enlist as an Royal Navy Sponsored Reserve.
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• Experience in shipping goods including dangerous cargo by road, sea and air
• Full UK Driving Licence Minimum Cat B
• Experience in communicating with Internal and external Stakeholders
• UK Seafarers Medical Certificate
It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• DG Consignor by Air, Sea and road transport
• Familiarity of MOD Stores System particularly MJDI
• Experience in Transport Management
• UK Driving Licence –Additional Categories BE, C1, C1E, D1, D1E
• ADR Qualified
• Fork Lift Truck Operator
• Microsoft / IT Experience
• Experience in Marine based operations
• Proven Problem-solving and Commercial skills/experience

About your team
The Integrated Logistics (iLog) Function is the integrating Function for Support within DE&S, responsible for the development, management and delivery of in-service support for our front-line command customers. The iLog Function consists of around 2,900 personnel, both civil servants and military, and with a wide range of disciplines ranging from operations management and supply chain management, technical through-life support and logistics delivery, to modelling and analysis and internal continuous improvement consultancy services.
