We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed engineer to join the Trident Systems Project Team (TSPT) as a Future Capabilities engineering manager. You will be a key part of a multi-disciplined team supporting the security of the UK.
The Trident Systems Project Team (TSPT) is part of the Director Submarine Support with the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA). TSPT has end-to-end responsibility for the provision and support of Strategic Weapons Systems capability and targeting capability in support of the UK Strategic Deterrent.
Your role will involve regular liaison with multiple stakeholders where you will demonstrate your talent for communicating, influencing and working with others.
Working within your team you will be responsible for managing two high profile contracts, acting as an intelligent customer, and assessing the quality of technical deliverables.
You will build strong working relationships and advise on any potential risks associated with the research programmes.
It is expected that you will travel as part of your role to offsite locations within the UK such as Portsmouth, Glasgow, Bristol and Reading. There may also be infrequent travel to the US.
As this is a complex and multifaceted post in a highly sensitive area, this post is Reserved (Sole UK Nationals only), DV (Directed Vetting) and Sensitive. Applicants will start the post once they have undergone their DV security clearance
Please note that the working conditions for this role are situated in an underground facility and therefore, for health and safety reasons the successful applicant must be physically able to climb 100ft of stairs in the event of an emergency.
Responsibilities
Develop future in-service support programme capabilities and deliver outputs in accordance with the DNO (Defence Nuclear Organisation).
Manage multiple research programmes, setting the details specification of programmes and management of the contract.
Co-ordinate advice on the technical and policy aspects of the Operational Effectiveness programmes, including liaison with other Ministry of Defence branches and contractor agencies.
Support the management team by providing the engineering information needed for products to allow sign off for new capabilities into service.
You will provide strategic and technical assessment of scientific research programmes, as well as recommendations for collaborative projects between the US and UK.
Supporting the preparation of business cases; cost estimates; submissions and reports as required .
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• L4 qualification (or higher) in an engineering subject or equivalent relevant experience in industry.
• Experience with engineering programme management and process tools (e.g. GEAR)
• Experience of In-service management or support of requirements management and deliverables.
• Strong, demonstrable experience of managing both internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience of providing technical review and evaluation of technical documentation against an acceptance criteria
It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Experience of contract management.
• Experience of controlling a financial budget spend.
