The C-17 Airborne Equipment (AE) Team are looking for a Head of Section (HoS) to lead the Airborne Delivery Equipment (ADE) and Airborne Forces Equipment (AFE) portfolio in Certification, Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) and Test and Evaluation (T&E) activities.
As the Head of Section, you will be responsible for all activity undertaken within the Certification /FDM /T&E Section. You will be a Professionally Registered Engineer (CEng) able to demonstrate the competence required to be issued a Letter of Airworthiness Authority within 6 months of commencement of the post.
Your extensive aeronautical engineering experience, preferably within the Airborne Delivery Equipment (ADE) or Airborne Forces Equipment (AFE) will see you provide technical leadership, operational direction, and the delivery of all engineering products and services to plan.
You will represent the Airborne Equipment Chief Engineer at those forums associated with Certification, Test & Evaluation and Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) activities, including but not limited to Design Organisations, T&E organisations, Military Aviation Authority (MAA) and Duty Holders (DH).
Provide direction and guidance within the Section in order to complete FDM, certification, T&E and trails activities in support of the outputs required.
Liaise with senior leaders within the MAA, Aviation Duty Holder (ADH) and other regulatory and policy organisations in order to develop compliance strategies for AE.
Ensure T&E and trials specifications and evidence meet Chief Engineer and Aviation Duty Holder requirements for a safety assessment and safety argument that achieves defined safety targets.
Review and approve (within delegated LoAA approval) all activity within the Section such that the requirements of endorsed programmes can be achieved within the remit of the Sections responsibilities.
Report to the Chief Engineer and liaise with the Airborne Equipment Engineering Authority, ADE and AFE Managers, to produce the scope of work for the section and ensure it can be integrated into wider delivery.
You will be responsible for oversight of the Compendium of Airborne Equipment Release Certificates (CAERC) management and support to other platform DTs clearance work in order to amend aircraft Release to Service (RTS).
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
Relevant Level 6 (or higher) qualification in engineering or extensive aeronautical engineering experience. You will be a Chartered Engineer or working at this level and willing to apply through a recognised Engineering Institution within 3 6 months of commencement of the post.
Knowledge of relevant certification standards and processes for aircraft and airborne equipment.
Experience of leading a team in a Test and Evaluation development environment or as a Lead Trials Engineer
Experience with the development of FDM methodologies, including data gathering and assessment.
Experience of peer review, production and technical approval of Integrated Test Evaluation and Acceptance Plans (ITEAP) and technical reports/safety assessments.
It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
Experience of Military Permit to Fly for Airborne Equipment
Previous engineering experience of parachute systems design
Develop strategies and plans for Airborne Equipment policy, certification and Flight Data Monitoring including knowledge of methodologies
Experience of delivering parachute trials evidence in support of stated requirements
Knowledge of the Release to Service (RTS) process and clearance of new capabilities
