The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in service support and disposal of the UKs nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UKs continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent, and delivering the most technically complex programmes in Defence. We employ over 1500 people and have an annual spend of c. £3.5 billion.
Do you have a keen eye for detail and a good understanding of project finance? Are you looking for a role with developmental opportunities? If so we are recruiting for a number of Cost Control Finance positions based at Clyde.
Your main role is to record, analyse and report project costs and undertake related cost control activities, ensuring all financial and performance reporting requirements are met. You will also be required to provide assurance that projects comply with SDA and Departmental policy in respect of all cost activities, providing support to, and working under the guidance of the Cost Control Finance Lead and the wider team.
Please note due to the security reasons, the role is only open to SOLE UK Nationals.
The roles and responsibilities will include:
Produce accurate and timely forecasts ensuring any variance and financial risk commentary is accurate and insightful
Provide Financial input, challenge and information at a monthly review meeting to empower stakeholder decision making
Enter and reconcile cost information into various project financial systems from business case approvals, options and change requests; ensuring a clear audit trail. Consistently monitor project cost spend against these approvals
To challenge and interpretate supply chains cost data to support accruals and project forecasting.
Produce accurate supporting data and inputs for the Annual Budget Cycleprocess, consolidating project data to produce a forecast for the benefit of the whole delivery team.
Produce accrual and general journals and option proposals to ensure robust supporting evidence is included. Actively support the Cost Control Finance lead with any audit and compliance requests
Support Estimators to develop cost models and assist in the production of Investment Appraisals
Liaise with the internal Finance and Accounting team to ensure the correct financial treatment
Provide support, training and leadership to staff at the lower level to deliver the needs of the Cost Control Team
To communicate key project financial performance data to key member of the project, programme and SDA leadership.
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or similar software (including the use of V-lookups and pivot tables)
Demonstrate previous cost/financial experience
Understanding of budgeting and forecasting, variance analysis and capturing project costs
It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
Working towards suitable technical/professional qualification such as AAT, CIMA or similar
Leadership or management experience
