HOME SAFETY SUPPORT WORKER (x5)
Community Fire Safety Department, North Wales
Permanent, 37 hours per week
NWFRS Grade 04 £21,322 to £22,183 per annum
We are looking to appoint up to 5 Home Safety Support Workers to join our Community Fire Safety teams across North Wales.
Fire and Rescue Authorities have a duty under the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004 to provide information, publicity and encouragement to prevent fires and associated deaths and injuries. Working with the communities of North Wales, Home Safety Support Workers deliver safety advice, guidance and tools in the homes of identified target groups to contribute to their health, safety and wellbeing. Within their areas of responsibility, they will also proactively support the delivery of fire safety awareness activities and safety campaigns.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to develop strong working relationships, particularly with vulnerable people within the identified target groups. With an open and approachable manner, candidates will be customer-focused and motivated in helping others to keep safe and well in a respectful and confidential way.
Applicants will need to demonstrate (with evidence) the skills, as outlined in the job description and person specification including the following essential requirements:
• Educated to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a health and social care related subject or equivalent relevant experience of working with the identified target group.
• Knowledge and understanding of the needs of those in the identified target groups.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently, using own initiative.
• Ability to manage own time and prioritising of workload to meet deadlines.
• Computer literacy, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Hold a full UK Driving licence.
• The ability to communicate confidently in Welsh to Level 4 is essential for this post.
• Appointment subject to Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service Check and satisfactory references (must be completed prior to starting).
The teams are normally located in one of the Community Safety Offices in Caernarfon, Colwyn Bay, Rhyl, Wrexham or Deeside but staff are currently working remotely/from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the ability to continue working flexibly in the future. There may also be a requirement to undertake this role working within other partner agencies. Applicants should note there may be a requirement to work outside of normal working hours on infrequent occasions upon mutual agreement.
