Job
Description :
Minimum salary of £19,801 per annum, up to £23,195 per annum in line with National Living Wage, plus benefits
18 months Full time, 35 hours p/week
As London Museum gets ready to move into its new home in Smithfield at the end of the year, this is a great opportunity to join us at an important moment in our future. We’re transforming how people access and engage with our collections, and this apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience in library and archive work while working towards the Library, Information and Archive Service Assistant Level 3 qualification through the Westminster Adult Education Service.
As a Library & Archives Apprentice, you'll work alongside our Librarian and Museum Archivist & Records Manager, supporting the vital work of managing and caring for our collections. You'll be involved in everything from preparing our library for its move to Smithfield, to listing archive records and helping researchers access the Port of London Archive at Docklands. This is a busy, dynamic role where no two days are quite the same—and where your contribution will directly help us transform how people discover and engage with London's heritage.
Previous experience of working in a museum is not required. To succeed in this role, you'll need to be proactive and well organised, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and keep on top of priorities. You should have a genuine passion for heritage libraries and archives, particularly managing collections —this is a role for someone who's excited about developing real expertise in this field. And crucially, you'll need to meet the apprenticeship eligibility criteria: the right to work in the UK and at least three years’ ordinary UK residency and have a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9–4 (A*–C) including English and maths.
